Can anyone please recomend a book about American butterflies? We are visiting Illinois in May and my other half wants to gen up before we go.

Butterflies of North America (Kaufman Focus Guides) is my favorite guide to eastern USA butterflies.

Don't know if it will help you over there, Gillian, but that book is only $3.99 from Amazon.com at the moment.
I just got it, but haven't had time to look through it. It is very highly regarded, though.
