I will soon only own these two binoculars. if you had to pick between the two, which would you chose for astronomy?

I would pick an 8x42 but it would be in Aculon. Why? Because the greater magnification and broader fov. Greater magnification will both enlarge objects making them a bit easier to see and allow you to separate objects that are close together. The 7x50 has a rather tight fov of 6.4 compared to the 8x42 with 8. The view of the night sky will seem spacious in the 8x42 in comparison.

The Monarch with 8x magnification actually has a tighter fov of 6.3. It would not be my choice for night sky observation. And to be honest I would pick the Aculon 8x42 for daytime observation as well.
