Hi everyone, I saw this bird on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. There was another flying with a white wingspan. I have never seen these birds before on campus and was curious as to their identity and what they were doing lost in the middle a city. This one was very interested a squirrel on the same tree.

Belly-band = Red-tailed Hawk.

Hi, and welcome to BirdForum!

My initial impression is Red-tailed Hawk based on the reddish tail in photo one and the line of dark spots forming a "belly band". Here in Ottawa it's not uncommon to see them in wooded or agricultural areas in the city, but it's not an everyday occurrence.
