Update ... from the Bird Taxonomy and Nomenclature Forum, thread In search of elusive type specimens ... (here, posts #1-4).

Regarding the obscure (and debated) subspecies:
• "Phasianus mongolicus bergii" ZARUDNY 1914, from the islands in the Aral Sea, Central Asia [considered either a synonym of Phasianus colchicus turcestanicus LORENZ 1896, or a valid subspecies (according to Clements, et al), depending on which taxonomy you prefer to follow]

Thanks to Laurent we now know that this "bergii" is not (as earlier have been claimed) commemorating the Swedish botanist Peter Jonas Bergius (1730-1790), but instead the Russian naturalist Lev Semënovich Berg (1876-1950).
