French Alps (1 Viewer)

I'm looking for any birding info in the Morzine area of the French Alps.

Any sites for wallcreeper and Llamergier would be greatly appreciated, plus any regular Alpine specialities.

Will be in the area next week.

Hey Zoot, hopefully not too late.
Try Sixt-fer-a-Cheval park for Wallcreeper - we went in late August and early September and seen them on both occasions....sorry can't remember exactly where as it was 12yrs ago!! But just check the rock faces with waterfalls on them, worked for us both times. Also Citril Finch, Alpine Marmot and Ibex here too

Hi Zoot, hopefully you've got Internet while in Eurozone, a good place not TOO far from Morzine is the Col de la Colombiere, Lammergeier a dead cert there, plus Griffons Golden and S t Eagle likely, even a Black Vulture recently. Citril Finch,Crag Martin, Water Pip, Alpine type Northern Wheatear, R t Rock Thrush etc. If you're fit for hiking walk from the Col up past Lac de Peyre and there are Snowfinch on the crags,Alpine Accentors around but can be elusive. Another path goes off right at a little farmhouse on your way up and goes to Grottes de Montarquis where Wallcreepers are reported in summer. Take plenty of water(though the cafe at the Col does a nice cool beer (must get Monsieur Williams up there one day!))

Thanks Richard, much appreciated. I spent a pleasant morning up there today and was rewarded with great views of lammergeier, griffin culture and ST eagle. Quite an impressive migration going on first thing, with large numbers of common migrants crossing the Coll. 3 black woodpeckers taking this route was a surprise. Would happily return.

Adam I did spend some time at Sixt-fer-a-cheval with the family so a bit late and hot. No wallcreepers, but a fantastic place. Next time...
