Barrow or Nome or Yukon Delta? (1 Viewer)

Inland birding is hard work!!
Hello

Please can someone tell me should I go to Barrow, Nome or YK Delta and can someone tell me the cheapest way to get to YK Delta?

Hello,

To start I don't know a cheap way to get to the YKD plus, it is so big, logistics get to be a little tricky.

As far as Nome or Barrow, it depends whats on your list of want to see's. The first 3 weeks of June tend to be the best for both places to see birds displaying in breeding plumage, great for photography. Barrow usually has the best chance to see and get looks at all 4 eiders. Certain shore birds are more likely in Barrow ie. buff-breasted sandpipers and red phalaropes and others.

On the other hand Nome has the potential to have more variety. Including some asian species that you may not find as unique as us north americans do. White wagtails, bluethroats and stints. Nome is also known for their nesting bristle-thighed curlews.

I am planning to go to Nome this next spring for those spieces.

Hope this helps and maybe we'll see ya there,
