Indonesian song birds poached for competitions (1 Viewer)

Very disturbing story from the New York Times about poachers in Indonesia trapping wild song birds (with glue) so they an be sold for song bird competitions. The organization Flight is fighting this.

Not sure about trapping methods but this is a very, old problem. In Indonesia, caged birds can be a sign of affluence hence the bounty on Bali Mynas but even some birds that were once very common e.g Red-whisked Bulbul, are now, most often seen in cages.

I walked around a bird market once, I forget where was but it was shocking, they had everything from Owls, to Woodpeckers, Sunbirds and Flycatchers, most of which won't survive captivity and don't even sing!
