Biebrza marshes on fire (1 Viewer)

According to today's news, the fire is under control and it was caused by illegal grass burning.

I can still imagine a lot of danger because of the unprecedented drought of this year - actually Warsaw is now considering banning people from forest around the city because of fire hazard, just a week after the ban for corona was lifted. Everything is extremely dry and prone to fire.

They are two separate cases of bad management of Poland's ministry of environment.

In the Biebrza national park, drainage ditches in the national park and around were cleaned and improved, although it was known that the peat area is dangerously drying. The ministry also did too little to stabilize the water flow of the main river Biebrza, with the water falling e.g. because of water works in the connected Narew. So you got a 60 km2 fire.

Prohibiting entry to the forests for weeks during drought is another specialty of Poland's ministry of environment. Neighboring countries manage to protect their forests from fire without banning entry for people to about a third of the land area in the middle of the tourist season. The result is that a prospective tourist to Poland cannot really know if forests or national parks will be possible to visit.

Yes, we had a drought too, since roughly December I'd say. 2-3 days of light-medium rain last week and showers forecast for tomorrow, but not nearly enough. Hope you get some rain.
