After a recent run of new birds including East Yorkshire`s autumnal bounty,I have finally reached and, indeed comfortably exceeded the formerly magic 400 birds on my British list. However, considering that I began birding in1964 and have done so fairly seriously since University in 1969 this equates to under 10 new birds a year.Mind you,it wasn`t so easy to find out about rarities in the early days and I have somehow managed to balance my passion with a 35 year marriage(passion there also of course,on occasions and greatly assisted by Viagra recently) and family. I still feel privileged to have seen so many lovely, and less lovely, places and to have made so many great friends as well as seeing so many birds. As I approach 60 years of age I give thanks for our wonderful pastime and who knows what I might attain in the years left to me.
