A juvenile Mediterranean Gull sighted at the Flashes on the 20th and 21st August 2006 sporting a white leg ring with black code 3K80 was ringed in the nest at Ineos, Zwijndrecht, Antwerpen, Belgium on the 2nd June 2006.

Whilst not recorded again at Upton Warren the bird has a very extensive re-sighting history having been subsequently re-ringed as white E825 and was still being noted earlier this year, making the bird nearly 13 years old:

A host of responses from ringing scheme coordinators over the weekend. To kick off:

I have had it confirmed at Black-headed Gull with white leg rink with code 21A5, noted on the 16th July 2011, was ringed at the Cotswold Water Park in the late Noughties - I am awaiting fuller details on the bird.

The most recently observed ringed Black-headed Gull (yellow leg ring with black 2A23) was ringed at Fishers Green, Lea Valley Country Park, Essex on the 13th June 2017; there have been no other sightings of the bird. This is the fourth BHG from this ringing programme to be recorded at Upton Warren.

Further to the above flurry of activity please find attached an updated schedule of ringing gulls recorded at Upton Warren.

Can I just ask where people do report a gull to the ringing scheme coordinator that they either share the details on the forum or forward to me direct please wo we can maintain this overview.

A Mediterranean Gull with red leg ring and the reported white code PNU present on the 1st March 2016 has come back as belonging to a Polish ringing scheme but untraceable to a specific bird as the code is a digit short.

We did have PNU4 from the same scheme recorded at Upton Warren back in 2013.

Photos from The Moors today.

1-3 before the work party, 4 after.
1 Unusually two Water Rails in the same shot, one in bright sun, one in the shade of the East Hide.
2 Great-crested Grebe, seemingly on a mission!
3 Blackcap singing on the causeway.
4 Sparrowhawk on west track

This is the earliest ever sighting of Osprey at Upton Warren, surpassing the 28th March recorded last year.

Today's work party Moors

Thanks to all 23 of the crew today...welcome back Peter E.
Today was the last Habitat management work party of the season and a very well attended one too.
Work included:-
1. Completing the 2nd phase of the now re-aligned North Moors trail. The areas now enclosed inside the dead hedged will be allowed to scrub over. In time it will be a refuge for passerines free from disturbance now that the path is at the edge of the reserve. It will also cut down disturbance to the feeding station and birds in front of the hide. Added to the newly planted scrub around the hide this whole complex will form the largest area of continuous scrubland on the reserve once the saplings have matured.
2. The area in front of the viewing screens at the North end of the North Moors was cleared to improve viewing. The screens and screening were repaired.
3. The reed channels in front of the Jacobs hide were opened up and the grassy bank brush cut. This will improve views especially for disabled visitors on the ground floor.
4. The old sluice which was leaking heavily was repsired and the flow now just a trickle.

Special Thanks to all 23 of the crew today and also for all the work throughout the season as well as those not present today.
Alan D. Andy A. Bob O. Bobby P. Bob R. Charles. Graham L. Ian B. Ian Joh. Jim B. John C. Keith M. Nick F. Nick newbie. Paul M. Peter E. Ray C. Roger S. Steve S. Sue S. Terry W. Tony B and me
Also thanks Go Sue and Graham for cakes.
I will text you all if we need assistance..hopefully see you all birding . I will be birding Tuesday's so hopefully see you then.

Pics on my Twitter.
ps if anyone goes to the reserve could you take pics of the channels in front of the Jacobs hide I forgot to do so. If you post on here or whats app them to me .that would be great.. john
