Looks like Scopoli’s to me Mike, too long winged for Balearic although I have learnt from the many photos I’ve taken of Shearwaters, there can be distortions, reflections of light from the water and all sorts of other headaches when identifying from photos.
I am at the airport in San Francisco! About 24 hours of travel and waiting ahead so not looking forward to it. Soon be back up north Mallorca though, watching whatever migrants scraps are left over.
Mirella has found a Short-eared owl in Cala Egos. She has logged some super birds recently, just shows what working a local patch every day can produce. Mike

Hello!
Interesting walk along la Gola this morning with several fledglings everywhere, the best, a family of Firecrest on the track which goes next to the pinewood.

Still one Robin, one female Common Redstart, one Booted Eagle and again one 1st summer Night Heron at the Gommar Stream, in addition to the locals.

And still some beautiful flowers and butterflies.
Have a look to our FB and blog

Birds of Majorca Mountain

In the few flats areas over 1000 m in the sierra de Tramuntana, they live during the summer and breeds there 4 very special species, today we have gone to the Teix hights and have found the 4 species, all them very active:

- Spectacled warbler (at least 5 pairs)
- Rock thrush (1 or 2 pairs)
- Tawny pipit (many pairs, fighting and singing)
- Northern wheatear (at least 2 pairs, maybe 3)

The path is steep and hard but it worth.

Thank you Pep and congratulations on getting all four species. Wonderful photos.
I went last year and can confirm it’s quite steep!
However, leaving early, taking it easy with a few stops, it can be done, it just takes a lot longer. It is worth every step of the way, the scenery is fabulous and the birds are of course the stars. I may even have another go this year, better not leave it too long though, the birds become less showy and it gets too hot. Mike
