UK herps 2014 (1 Viewer)

A bit late, I acknowledge, but we had a decent thread on UK herps last year. So an equivalent this year to share information on emergences, activity, well-known sites/species etc - but steering well clear of divulging sensitive information (e.g. precise locations for adders).

From photos on flickr it seems everything native is out except smoothies already. Wall Lizards are out on Portland and at Shoreham at the very least (repeating public domain info, don't shoot the messenger!)

Some news on Aesculapian Snakes would be much appreciated as they are in the centre of my radar for this spring after serial dipping over several years.

John

Allen found a very dark Adder near Farnborough yesterday (on a site I had been visiting for weeks and told him about!!!) which I caught up with today. There were six others basking at the same site, three of which seem to be good buddies.

Single Sand Lizard on a cold but sunny sunday 23rd march near wareham , Dorset. No other reptiles in 2 visits but 10 degree c and a very cold wind probably did not help.

Maybe we could have a Birdforum meet up to look for the Aesculapian snakes? I'm keen to do it as well; lots of people looking would be a good idea.

It's a very impressive looking snake. The more the merrier. Good socially and there has to be a much greater chance of finding them with more people looking. Perhaps we could think of provisional dates? Obviously weather dependent.

After last year's washout I was just going to monitor pager and weather forecast and go as early in the year as seemed sensible with a forecast of blazing sunshine.

I like the idea of inviting a wide range of enthusiasts but I think organisation should be limited to something like "I'm going tomorrow, see you up there if you can make it."

As someone with a very full diary, some kind of let's go for xx if the weather's looking good if not let's try xx would be great.

At least 30 known individuals and confirmed breeding at the London site.

Not sure how many in North Wales but confirmed breeding
