Sharp-shinned Hawk or Cooper's? (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone,

I witnessed an aerial dogfight between a small hawk of some kind, and several Northern flickers and blue-jays trying to chase it away. The hawk kept fighting back and it went on for about 10 minutes in the area I was at. Unfortunately, the encounter mostly took place a good 100 yds away, and I was mired down in thickets so I couldn't get into position for a good photo. I did manage to get a descent frontal shot (1st photo) before the birds flew away to continue the fight.
This hawk was pretty small. At first I thought it was an American Kestrel it was so small. The second photo shows the size of the hawk (foreground) compared to a Northern Flicker (background). I transposed the flicker next to the hawk for size comparison. Even with the size of the flicker being handicapped because it is slightly further away, the hawk is only about twice as large; that not very big if you ask me.
My resource guides state that a sharp-shinned hawk has a more square tail compared to a cooper's and based on photo number 3, the tail looks square to me. Can anyone make heads or tails as to what kind of hawk this is?
