A Black White Winged Dove? (Florida/South Eastern United States) (1 Viewer)

Hello everyone,

I am from Florida and I saw a bird yesterday on my school campus that I can not identify. It had white wings, like a White-Winged Dove (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-winged_Dove), but it was black instead - or a very dark brown/purple. This is the best picture I could get of it, I can also pick out that it had white rings around its eye. It also had a small wattle at the base of its beak. You can see the white along the wing in the admittedly poor quality picture that I am attaching (I apologize). http://i.imgur.com/6ntTP.jpg

I am consulting this list for doves/pigeons and cannot find any that even remotely match the bird that I saw: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_birds_of_Florida#Pigeons_and_doves

Thank you for your time and help! :)

Oh, was giving a Koppen classification.. I am a Biology major and I occasionally have trouble shaking off the ecology-speak! I'll edit it out.

Might I add, I've come across your Flickr channel a few times and really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to BirdForum. Your bird is a domestic Rock Pigeon, as Fugl says.

What pray tell is a Koppen classification?
