Elephant Hawk Moth

Hi! Im new here so sorry if this is something that was already answered or disallowed.
I found an Elephant hawk Moth caterpillar last summer and decided to tear it and set it free with my children. Now hes hatched but his wings are damaged. At first I thought the just needed time to stretch out but its been a couple days. I soaked a cotton ball in honey and water got him to eat but I dont know what to do, can he be set free or should I set up his box for him to live in? Hes so lovely, weve named him Cecil.
