Large Lactarius for id (1 Viewer)

This large, presumably Lactarius sp exuding milky-like latex, was found in close proximity to oak, aspen and beech. The £1 is for scale. I was initially thinking in the region of Lactarius quietus but i don't ever recall seeing one this size.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi Dave,

Yeah, I don't think L.quietus ever gets this big...

Most of the species that get this large (L.vellereus, L.controversus etc.) are +/- white and have densely crowded, light gills.

I think this is L.acerrimus, which is associated with Oak (if I remember rightly).

Cheers,
Nick
