Canon S95 or Nikon P300 (1 Viewer)

I've read so many reviews and comments on both that I am exhausted. What's the general consensus here? I'm looking to get one or the other.

Thanks,

Tom

Im interested in these 2 as well. I seem to be favouring p300 up to now but could change

I have the S90.... Essentially same camera as S95 w/o video. Great camera , excellent photos. The nikon choice equal. Deciding factor to me was I have been a Canon person for awhile so I already knew the general navigation of camera and how to use. So if you know a canon or nikon... Get one you are familiar with.

If not , select one that has best 'ease of use' navigation wise and ergonomic wise. That is a personal choice. They are both excellent digiscoping cameras and if others start splitting hairs, don't worry... They are both effective.

Depends on the scope and your method attachment. Certainly the P300 is the path of least resistance on a Nikon scope using the dedicated FSB-8 adapter. But I think in terms of overall IQ the Canon S95 is the better choice, especially on any other brand of scope.

Thanks, guys. I am using a Celestron Regal 80 ( traded in the Regal 65 for more light). And yes, IQ is my major concern, and I am leaning toward the S95, especially with it's larger sensor and complete manual control. Having dealt with mostly DSLR cameras and even P&S ( A590- SX110) with manual, I think I'll be headed in that direction. I did like what I read about the P300's high resolution screen and 1080 video, but I also like to shoot in RAW. Am I answering my own question at this point? Sounds like it.:-O

FYI, RAW mode on a P&S tends to disable/impair performance many of a camera's most useful digiscoping features. Usually not enough dynamic range to recapture to make it useful for anything but tuning noise reduction.

Frankly given the S95's relatively high cost, I think an older Oly E-PL1s or E-PL2 along with an eyepiece with long 20mm+ eyerelief (Vixen 17mm LVW?) would be a better solution for you.

Thanks, RJM, but I have a DSLR ( Canon Rebel XT- 2 actually), with an array of lenses, and I don't know if I want to start another glass garden.:-O

Thank you for that news on RAW and DS- that makes alot of sense.

And, of course, I woke up this morning as undecided over this as much as I thought I was convinced by last night to get the S95. This morning I'm thinking P300... :-O
