Great skua, Brora beach (1 Viewer)

GeorgeMac

Sutherland
I think I've only ever seen 2 Great skuas here in the last 10 years, and this year I've seen 3 in the last week. This isn’t a very good photo, as he was well offshore, but it does for ID purposes. I saw another Great skua this morning, actually flying along the beach itself, not out at sea, and he wasn't far from the Golf Course club house. Not sure if this is all the same bird, but if it is, he could be nesting around here somewhere.

Hi George ,

Great skuas really are impressive birds, i Seawatch from Brora regularly and Bonxies have been passing for few weeks now heading north to their main breeding grounds in Orkney and Shetland . Late summer into Autumn is also a good time to look out for them from Brora.

Hi Dean, you're not far away then. Bronxies, that's what they're called? I noticed last week one of them being mobbed by seagulls near the Coves, south of Brora.
