Your help please gents!!!
Black backed gull photographed near Dover UK. I'm trying to get better at gull ID... so please... is it a Lesser or a Greater... but more importantly, WHY do you say so! )

Greater.
Pink legs, strong beak, white head.

Great (not Greater )

Also in this pic the darker black wings, broader wings, more brutish head (small eye) and bulk.

Lesser Black-backed or Great Black-backed (not ‘Greater’) of which yours is the latter as Jean says - also mantle colour being the darkest of greys/almost black depending on light conditions.



‘gents’ or ‘ladies’ !! ..??

P10 is only half grown but the large white 'mirror' of a GBBG can ne seen already

P = primary - almost in all species 10. There are two ways of counting, inward and outward. I mean the outermost primary...

On LBbG, in flight, you'd also see a contrast between the dark back and the blacker wing tips.
