Broad-billed Prion (1 Viewer)

Ryan, Bourgeois, Dromzée & Dilley (in press). The occurrence of two bill morphs of prions Pachyptila vittata on Gough Island. Polar Biol. [abstract]

When I first read that, I had visions of Gough Island being the ornithological home for the equivalent of Siamese twins.... How did the bird decide which bill to use?

But then I came back to earth, only occasionally distracted by the thought that Bill Morphs, like Bill Posters, would be prosecuted....

What's intriguing about the abstract is that the implications for ID headaches for this species of prion may be magnified if similar characteristics apply to other prion species (which now may be multiple species).:eek!:

And even more headaches from the prions that cause mad cow disease . . . o:D
