Beginner's Luck?! (1 Viewer)

Something I've noticed over the years is the number of times I've had my best find on my first visit to a place, and never had anything near as good in subsequent visits!

Examples are a Bee Eater on Portland;
a Fea's type petrel on my first Marinelife survey;
St.Agnes, Scillies: Melodious Warbler;
Pagham Harbour: Wryneck;
Rutland: Waxwing.

It's almost as if the first visit I search harder, then subsequently concentrate where I'm expecting the birds to be, and bias creeps in. Not very good bias either!

Or is it just a coincidence.
