This photo was taken in a friend's garden in Surrey, UK a couple of days ago. Could someone please give me an idea as to which species it is?

A maple, in flower; best guess Ash-leaved Maple Acer negundo, but can't rule out Silver Maple Acer saccharinum. It'll be a lot easier once the leaves are more fully expanded.
