June 2018 - Moths (1 Viewer)

I've finally got a single actinic going in the garden. Trapped 4 nights this week with a minimum of 24 species and c70 moths and a maximum of 45 species and c110 moths.

The highlight was our second patch Brussels Lace after one in July 2016. Nearby a friend had our third Netted Pug and a wandering Little Thorn which breeds on the patch but doesn't normally find its way into the gardens.

Brussels Lace; Little Thorn; Scarlet Tiger; Cypress Carpet; & Poplar Kitten.

All the best

Good numbers of Nine-spotted in Albania last week. Also 3 Hummingbird Hawkmoths + Broad-bordered Bee Hawkmoth, Cream-spot Tiger, Tawny Prominent + a few I couldn't identify!

Atropos - many thanks.

Aeshna5 - very gripping.

Alder & Obscure Wainscot this morning as well as a Shoulder-striped Wainscot. A grapholita lobarzewskii in a friend's garden however was the pick of last night.

Alder Moth x 2; Brown China-mark; Obscure Wainscot; & Grapholita lobarzewskii attached.

Hi Paul. Lovely pictures. I'm not running a trap this summer but still snapping the odd moth I come across during the day when looking for other stuff. I'm very lazy when it comes to micros preferring others to do the work. The attached was taken two days ago in Cornwall and bears a certain resemblance to your 'striking' moth of 10 June. It would be most serendipitous if you could confirm it's the same thing for me! Thanks

Thanks, Paul.

Here's my recent highlight, a surprising daytime find in a field full of Meadow Browns. Had never seen one before. Burnet Companion.

Thanks, Paul.

Here's my recent highlight, a surprising daytime find in a field full of Meadow Browns. Had never seen one before. Burnet Companion.

They are pretty active by day. Not sure what their status is on Scilly but I find them quite common in my local meadows to the west of London. nice photo of one!

The yearticks keep on coming - Leopard, Brown-tail, Magpie, Large Tabby & Donacaula forficella attached as a few this morning.

Atropos - many thanks. Always interesting to see your equivalent species or even more so those with the same patterning that are unrelated.

The last knockings of June continues with variety. Obscure Wainscots and Dingy Shears in better number than usual. Looking forward to losing this moon if the weather holds.....

A couple of Dingy Shears photos, Beautiful Golden Y, Swallowtail and L-album Wainscot attached. The latter colonised our coastline a decade ago in my view.
