Magpies (1 Viewer)

For the past week a magpie has been admiring himself in the glass of our patio doors, or perhaps thinks there is a rival magpie to get rid of? Now this bird(brain) regularly comes right up to the glass and taps constantly at the glass, he will do this even when the door is open, but as soon as he realises we are near he flies off. Any idea just what this is all about? The tapping is very persistent and surprisingly loud?!!

if it were a rival he would react more. he approaches it with curiosity and sees just that, a curious rather than aggressive or frightening reflection. he just isn't bored yet.
or else he is trying to train you into providing a sausage sandwich and a dish of guiness. time will tell!

Hi Racemyth and a warm welcome from me too.

You might want to try asking your question in the Bird Behaviour forum; they could well have some more ideas for you in there.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
