My wife and I drove through parts of France & Switzerland for both business and pleasure. I took my bins with me and amongst my sightings were:

Swift
Pied Flycatcher
Red-crested Pochard
Red-breasted Merganser
Goosander
Great Crested Grebe
Black Kite
Yellow-legged Gull (*if sighting photograph confirms my ID)
Pochard
Greylag Goose
Black Redstart
Dipper
Common Sandpiper
Fieldfare
Raven*
Moorhen
Short-toed Treecreeper (second time ever)
Willow Tit (most probable, based on habitat in which bird seen)

Birds marked by an asterisk were life firsts. I also heard a cuckoo (first for 2005) but didn't manage to locate it, otherwise it would have been another life first.
