Drongo-Cuckoo on Sumatra (1 Viewer)

I think we need some fresh study on these birds...

HBW Alive tells that:
- brachyurus (Square-tailed) breeds along Himalaya from Kashmir to NE India and Bangladesh and SE Asia including Malay peninsula, and Sumatra, Bornea and so on. Apparently the Himalayan birds are migrants (to somewhere?)
- barussarum (Square-tailed) breeds in NE India northern SE Asia and south China, winters S to Sumatra
-dicruroides (Fork-tailed) breeds along Himalaya and also in the Indian peninsula, where resident along Western Ghats.

Wells (1999) tells that brachyurus is the breeder in Malay peninsula, and longer-winged birds (which he does not name) occur in winter, apparently not too rare

Payne (2005) tells that:
- brachyurus (Square-tailed) breeds in Malay peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra and Palawan.
In the distribution chapter and map, Square-taileds are described to be breeding also in Assam, Burma and northern Thailand but these birds are not subspecifically named.
- barussarum (Fork-tailed) breeds in Assam, northern Burma, northern Thailand and elsewhere in SE Asia, but not in China.
- dicruroides (Fork-tailed) Breeds "southern Asia from Himalayas and Yao Shan through Indian subcontinent" Apparently "Yao Shan" really mean Yao Shan, NE Guanxi and this is the taxon in south China.

Erritzøe et al (2012) tell that:
- barussarum (Square-tailed) breeding mapped from eastern Burma and western Thailand to Malay peninsula and in Sumatra and Borneo. But in the text also mentioned Nepal, Assam and such places
- dicruroides (Fork-tailed) breeding napped in Indian Subcontinent and Himalaya from Kashmir towards east and also in south China, wintering in SE Asia including Malay peninsula and Sumatra.
