Trump administration unwinds Migratory Bird Treaty Act (1 Viewer)

Companies can now destroy as many birds as they want with no repercussions, thanks to Trump rolling back the 1918 Migratory Bird Treaty Act

This is end-game nihilism, isn't it? Just trying to do as much damage across the board as possible before he has to run for exile in Russia to avoid prosecution? (I was going to say something slightly different in accordance with Godwin's repeal of his Law, but Trump has already had his bunker moment.) 3:)

I read somewhere that ocean reserve areas set up in New Zealand were fought tooth and nail by local fishermen. Now those same fishermen are their main guardians, as the reserves replenish other areas which they can fish. I don't think the GOP world view can peek much beyond the next profit horizon unfortunately.

I have a recollection that Bush(?) before Obama did something similar in the last few months of his presidency - rapidly enacting anti-environmental laws etc before leaving office.

A large amount of motivation behind what trump and his cronies do is predicated on the idea of "owning the libs". Our society has reached the point of polarization where, for some folks, if something is supported by the opposing side, that must mean its bad and should be destroyed.

Another rule along the same line is that the duck stamp program just had rules pass that require its stamps to show some aspect of hunting, a requirement that never existed before and which seems to solely exist to annoy the various birders/naturalists who buy the stamps to support conservation, without being a hunters. Prior stamps usually just had pictures of ducks, hardly controversial imagery. They are literally turning away money just spite conservationists, even as hunting overall is in decline in the country.

The last four years have seen this crop up again and again, fed by an anti-government mentality that the republicans have been inoculating for years into there voter base. Hell some of these measures are not even supported by the industries that Trump is claiming to help, with both the vehicle industry and food industry believing that rolling back some of these rules caused more chaos than good, especially if they just get put back in place after Trump leaves.

The migratory bird act decision is appalling as is the ocean rollbacks. The duck stamp definitely won’t be done any service.
We can just hope and pray that enough of our country have had enough and vote blue down the line this November. Then we have to get some legislation passed to undo the harm this idiot has done to us.

Sadly, the problem goes back a lot further.
The Obama administration decision to allow unspecified 'takings' of raptors by the wind turbines opened the door to a wholesale redo of the MBTA.
Imho, the focus on nebulous concepts such as 'climate change' is a vehicle for advancing otherwise totally unacceptable concepts that are usually very destructive.

Excuse me asking, but are you trying (like Trump does) to put the blame for everything he does on someone else?

For those of you that missed it, here's a link.

No, I'm merely trying to point out that Trump is in no wise disruptive, he is merely implementing the dictates of the US bureaucracy in an unusually clumsy but still consistent fashion.
Imho, Sec. of State Mike Pompeo is perhaps the embodiment of that bureaucracy, rigid in its outlook and self righteous to the edge of arrogance.
The domestic consequences of this are nicely illustrated by the Animas River disaster, ( https://www.cnn.com/2015/08/09/us/colorado-epa-mine-river-spill/index.html ) created by the EPA's unwillingness to listen to any of the warnings of the people living with the situation.
That mindset in the EPA just does harm domestically, the equivalent elsewhere in the Pentagon and the Dept of State are much more harmful.
