Only 30,000 Red-breasted Geese are left on the planet. The majority of them overwinter in Bulgaria. Every year hundreds are killed by poachers.

The proposed enlargement of the hunting season in Bulgaria with one month (from 31 January to 29 February) will radically increase the mortality due to illegal shooting and disturbance during the hard winter period.

Help us to save them! Sign our petition:

Please forward this message to your friends!

We need at least 5,000 signatures by 10 September 2008 when the Bulgarian Parliament will start to discuss these Hunting Act amendments!

Done- there have already been shorter extensions of the season into early to mid February in recent years and it has been very harmful in terms of both extended poaching and disturbance.

It's vital that people sign this.
Have you?
It's all very well worrying about how to carry a 500 f.4 but there'll be nothing left to point it at unless we can stop such pointless killing.

It's up to 3891 now.
Please sign if you haven't already and add a reply here say you have so that this stays near the top of BF's Today's Posts for others to read.
Thanks.

This weekend there were more than 200 hunters in the area where the RBGs are. Although the sites are protected with all possible criteria there is still poaching. At least one Red-breasted goose was shot. The geese are quite viable at this time because there's a huge congregation of over 10 000 red-breasted geese. Absolutely stunning view! So if you want to see them now is the time before they get shot or disappear scared by the increasing pressure from windfarms and conversion of wheat fields into golf courses.
