I saw my first Holly Blue of the year on Saturday. Lots of Orange tips, Commas, Peacocks and Small Tortoiseshells also. One or two Speckled Woods.

3 Wheatears - 2 females, 1 male - at Middleton Bank this evening - view barren dry cattle field from gate by railway bridge along Copcut Lane.

Coney Meadow

A Grasshopper Warbler sang 3 times to the left of the viewing screen at around 6 am.
3 Snipes flushed from the eastern small pool.
1 Common Whitethroat singing.
1 Water Rail showed well in front of the screen.
1 Cuckoo perched in dead tree.
Reed Warblers.

Elsewhere:

Willow Warbler Salwarpe village

Whitethroat singing and showing well Middleton Bank.

A pair of Kestrels mating in tree along Copcut Lane

As we turned out of Chawson Lane towards Salwarpe village this morning, in the car, a weasel shot across the road in front of us. A first for me, and first in many years for o/h. Fabulous, if too brief! Maybe there's a good population of them thereabouts.
Grasshopper warbler singing near the screen for a few minutes. Sadly, didn't hear a cuckoo.

A Little Ringed Plover just flushed from one of the scraped areas at Copcut Rise - patch tick!

2 Lapwings over.

A Hobby just flew low over the worked area!!

Two Snipes flew out of the reedbed.

Might be worth mentioning the 2 Meadow Pipits I had flu over Coney this morning - in case they are the last ones for a few months.

2 mile circular walk this morning:

1 Lesser Whitethroat singing from the Chawson Lane area - first for the year.
1 Grasshopper Warbler Coney Meadow.
4+ Wheatears (3 females, 1 male) in the 'barren' field with cattle in it at Middleton Bank.
2 Cuckoos Coney Meadow
3 Snipes
1 Water Rail
Reed Warblers
2 Common Whitethroats
Nuthatch
Goldcrests
Ravens
Skylark
1 Meadow Pipit over

Worth getting up at 05:30 for.

I have also seen a weasel (last year) up near Middleton Cottage (the thatched one on Copcut Lane) so they are about.

Cuckoo was calling at weekend and was heard in village.

Just received this image form a Salwarpe neighbour who advises firemen are present but unable to do anything. Not looking good I'm afraid.

What will be affected:

Cuckoos
Grasshopper Warblers
Reed Warblers
Sedge Warblers
Water Rails
Reed Buntings
etc, etc...

I just hope they find the perpetrators :C:C:C:C

Just so so sad!
