Hi we will be going to Orkney and Shetland mid May early June can anyone help regarding the best places to go for photographing birds and wildlife Thank you

Hi from Orkney, there are lots of places here. RSPB Stromness office are very good at letting you know what recent sightings there are, on FB there is an Orkney Birding Group and Orkney Wildlife Group. In May we usually go to Cottisgarth - BRAND new hide building! - to see hen harriers sky dancing. Puffins will be around then as well, good places to spot are between Marwick Bay and Kitchener Memorial and Brough of Birsay. Also South Ronaldsay - I have seen them at Burwick. They are seen at Deerness but I have only ever seen from a boat. Don't have the dates yet but RSPB usually have a couple of boat trips a year into The Gloup and round Mull Head and round the island of Copinsay, these are usually May/June and great opportunity to see birds on the cliffs and in the water, plus very reasonably priced - between £8-£12 per person. Only a small boat so requires booking fast.

Thanks for your information, will definetly try the RSPB Stromness for recent sightings, and like the idea of the boat trip,so will be contacting rspb

Thank you very much
