Ok, background first: May 24th, St. Louis area. While letting the dog out, I hear a loud, distinct call from across the street. It repeats several times, never varies. However, I never seen the bird, and I was not able to get a recording. I have never heard the call again, indicating to me this might have been a migratory bird. I have went through Merlin, and I cannot find the call in question.

Now, some details about the call. It was loud, similar in volume and tone to a Carolina Wren. The call had no trills or clicks in it. Now, the call, phonetically:

Pew (3 second pause) pee-kit (1 second pause) pee-kit (1 second pause) pee-kit

(6 second pause)

Pew (3 second pause) pee-kit (1 second pause) pee-kit (1 second pause) pee-kit

It kept repeating like that for about 2 or 3 minutes. I never heard it again.

Definately not a Wood-Peewee (which is what others had suggested)

This is driving me NUTS!!!! HELP!!!!

Possibly Eastern Phoebe?

I know Gray Catbirds tend to have a varied song, but I've heard them get stuck on one phrase for quite a while.

I am fairly certain I have finally identified the bird that made this call....

A Blue-Headed Vireo. On May 24th, it would've have been migrating. Makes sense....and the song is very similar to what I heard.
