Acros and Acronyms- birding terms explained! - beginning birders (2 Viewers)

Setti's or chettis for Cetti's Warbler?
Hopi, hoopi, or hopo for Hoopoe?

Some names are a bit odd and hard to know the right way to pronounce. And whose to say what's right anyway?

It's "chetti" - Cetti was Italian, so 'ce' is is pronounced "che" in English.

Contrary to popular belief, the -e at the end of Radde (a German name) should be pronounced: "raddes warbler" not (as so often heard) "raddz warbler"

Thanks mate

As to Radde the e is pronounced uh, cos its german, but Radde's is genitive, ie belonging to or of Radde, so both letters es are pronounced as you say Raddes
