New research using data from the Waterways Breeding Bird Survey shows how the occurrence of river birds is influenced by river flow. As river systems are vulnerable to climate change, this study helps suggest how bird communities might respond to shifts in river flows, and highlights which species will be at risk from future predicted increases in flooding and droughts. When I left school, back in the seventies, the term food chain was used. I noticed in this research it is referred to as food web. Is this simply a better desciptive way of looking at food availability in a given ecosystem or is it a revised concept?
