Nikon Coolpix p900 -v-.......... (1 Viewer)

I have the Coolpix p500 and the Panasonic Lumix fz200. Is it worth investing in the p900?

What does it offer extra?

Thanks

The 950 was just released and you still have the 1000 out there as well.

I have the 900 and looked at the 950 specs. It seems the viewfinder is all that appeals to me and that was the same case when the 1000 was launched.

If, as stated you have the p500 versus the b500, the specs say that you already have shutter speed priority as a manual setting. That along with the zoom are usually sufficient for good bird photography.

The reviews on the p500 and the p900 both mention soft pictures as a weakness.

In terms of comparison, the b500 I use also produces soft pictures and I really like sharpness in a pic prior to editing.

Of course the larger zoom is the big draw, so if that's your main need, the p900 will do. It seems that many of the Nikon superzooms have a very slow focusing time at full zoom. That has also been my experience.

While the P900 will never compete with a DSLR a lot of the soft image complaints come from user error, shooting over too long a distance and camera shake are just two.

A couple of samples not bad for a P900
