Nohatch's 2013 list (1 Viewer)

Nohatch

Mad scientist
First time I'm keeping a year list - or actually 3 lists at once (plus the life list of course) B :)

Listed here will be all the birds I've seen in 2013; mostly in the UK but hopefully also on trips to continental Europe, the USA and Puerto Rico. The world list will be in black font with the UK list overlaid in blue.
I'm also competing in the Patchwork Challenge (http://patchworkchallenge.blogspot.co.uk/) and species seen on my patch (Hythe, Hampshire) will be followed by a *.

I'll be using the IOC list for taxonomy.

End of 2012:
Life: 675 species
World: 0 species
UK: 0 species
Patch: 0 species

Here goes....... :t:

The end of a quiet month on my local patch. Yesterday's additions of Eurasian Coot and Nuthatch (finally!) help push the 75 points boundary - half of this year's target!

I'm also updating the life list to the latest IOC v3.3, which will probably give me a few armchair ticks. The score for now:

4th March 2013

A brisk morning walk around Dibden Bay was rewarded with numerous goodies, including my first migrant Black-tailed Godwit (already in summer plumage) and Whimbrels of the year and a male Northern Goshawk. The highlight though, were two Jack Snipe flushed from a very marshy part of the trail. These small Snipe are fairly common winterers in the UK, but a lifer for me! I'll be sure to go back and try to get some close-up views:

83. Dartford Warbler (Sylvia undata) *
84. Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) *
85. Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) *
86. Eurasian Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) *
87. Stock Dove (Columba oenas) *
88. Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) *
89. Jack Snipe (Lymnocryptes minimus) * LIFER
90. Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) *

Late afternoon visit to Dibden Bay. Still plenty of wintering Lapwings around, attracting a hunting male Peregrine Falcon. It didn't catch any of the Lapwings, but it was fun to watch him try.

March continues to delivier, with the list steadily growing. The brief cold snap didn't bring the wished for divers or ducks, but scanning the usual clutch of gulls at the marina resulted in a Ring-billed Gull!

92. Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) *
93. Egyptian Goose (Alopochen aegyptiaca) *
94. Eurasian Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus) *
