Portsmouth roost? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

We saw an amazing roost on HMS Warrior at Portsmouth whilst on holiday this half term. I posted this pic on the gallery.

Shortly after the pic there was a loud bang which moved all the birds off the ship. This repeated a few times as the birds alternated between the buildings and the ship, with the birds eventually roosting under the pier - which was also spectacular to see.

Does anyone know if this is deliberate, if so I have a few questions.

Why don’t the birds just roost under the pier?

Do the birds damage the rigging/ship with their guano?

Is it done to stop the birds roosting on the buildings?

Thanks all Julie

PS Everyone should visit the Mary Rose exhibition - it’s amazing.
