A male Little Eagle (apparently a long time breeding resident) from the ACT just up and left and flew 3300km to the Northern Territory !

I was checking up on how these were going in the face of woodland loss due to expanding housing development, and reports that 6 breeding pairs had been identified (with much greater search effort) with half of them successfully fledging. This is after a population of 13 pairs had gotten down to 1.

Here's hoping they can continue to build numbers and actually have some Canberra woodland habitat left to thrive in without having to go so far for a holiday !
