S. Michigan, USA-- solid gray bird w/ black markings? (1 Viewer)

Hello there. My dad (living in southeastern Michigan) has been observing a gray bird in his backyard for the past few weeks (June, 2009) and we have not been successful at identifying it. He told me that he has not seen this type of bird in his yard before and that it seems rather tame. I thought it might be a gray catbird but it has no red markings and the tail is squared off, not rounded. Could it be a juvenile gray catbird?

Yes, it is a Gray Catbird.

Thirded, the red marking are on the underside near the vent region. They are usually hard to see unless you are close and they are holding the tail right.

WOW! Thank you for the quick responses. I appreciate it since I'm a newcomer here.
Now I believe my dad owes me dinner!
