Found Notebook

A small black birders list notebook was found on the car park of the activity centre today and handed in to the Boat Shack cafe. Thanks to the person finding. If the notebook belongs to you it can be collected from the Boat Shack cafe.

Friday 16th March 1015-1545

A slightly disappointing day compared to Monday, with Teal and Lapwing numbers both significantly down and oddly no Shelduck.

MOORS POOL
1 Dunlin, 2 Snipe, 4 Oystercatcher, 6 Lapwing, 2 GC Grebe, 4 Little Grebe, 4 Cormorant, 2 Little Egret (Amy's Marsh and Swampy Bottom), 3 Mute Swan, 2 Greylag Geese, 71 Canada Geese, 5 Gadwall*, 15 Teal, 13 Shoveler, 14 Pochard, 43 Tufted Duck, 8 Moorhen, c30 Coot, 160 BH Gull, 5 Buzzard, 2 Redpoll as per Terry N.
* a male Gadwall, paired with a female Mallard, was regularly feeding at the base of the main feeder on the Feeding Station, affording excellent views.

NORTH MOORS
2 Teal, 4 Tufted Duck, 4 Coot, 1 Moorhen, Water Rail, Kestrel, pair of Bullfinch on the feeders.

SAILING POOL
2 Mute Swan, 20 Canada Geese, 7 GC Grebe, 4 Tufted Duck, 43 Coot, 2 Sand Martin earlier as per Alan H.

FLASHES
At least 31 Avocet, 2 Oystercatcher, 5 Curlew, 37 Lapwing, 2 Mute Swan, 6 Canada Geese, 5 Shoveler, 2 Gadwall, 12 Teal, 8 Tufted Duck, 9 Coot, 10 Moorhen, 2 LBB Gull, adult Med Gull, Pheasant, 2 Chiffchaff singing near the Hen Brook bridge as per Claire Workman.

Whilst the dramatically plunging temperatures of the weekend wont aid spring migrants, the cold front may see other birds already moving displaced, as witnessed in another overland passage of Kittiwake in the Midlands today and the arrival of a new Slavonian Grebe at Bartley Reservoir.

Very cold afternoon at the Flashes with a few very sharp snow showers, so much so it was coming in the hide with everything shut up.
Med Gull taken up residence on virtually the same spot they nested at last year so presumably a returning bird.It was calling frequently and trying to get the attention of a Black-headed Gull, but to no avail;)
Black-tailed Godwit feeding along the far shore infront of the reeds.
A curlew dropped in about 4pm.

Cooky B :)
