Curlew or Whimbrel? River Mersey Liverpool UK (today)

Hi all

It would be rare and a bit early for any Whimbrel around here - a little early for Curlew too maybe - so my gut instinct would say Curlew.

I know Curlew can have shorter bills and Whimbrel can have varying bends to their bills so thought best to ask you guys.

Was by itself so couldn't get a size comparison with anything.

thanks

Hi Richie, get your field guide out and look for curlew and whimbrel then look for the crown stripe of whimbrel. I can confirm your pictures are 100% curlew.. all the best coal tit.

Come on Richie, dig out the field guide and look at the differences between the two. I'm confident in you, go on, give it your best shot.
Ah, got beaten to it and saved you the leg work.
