Jessops now seem to have this camera in stock at £449.95. I'd prefer to buy locally, but Best Cameras (aka Kamera Direct) of St Helens is offering it for £369.98 (inc. postage). Has anyone had any dealings with this firm? Are they reliable? John
The big thing with Jessop’s they will price match UK internet sites that have the item in stock and they do have a thirty day return policy if the software is unopened.

For £353.00, I’m well pleased, right at the bottom of the learning curve of photography, I’m quite chuffed with the results, apart from resizing and level adjustment this is right out of the box.

Quick message for Norm - I too am based in Colchester and was wondering whether there is any more local forum to discuss digiscoping ?

What I am not quite clear on is how a large diameter lens and 12x zoom capacity squares with the general advice given to stick with the opposite for digiscoping or are you guys using solus ?

Aha, someone else based in this history-steeped town; treachery, bloodshed, murder; hey don't you just love the FA Cup?

Don't know of anyone successfully using the big zoom Panasonics for digiscoping though this 2" William Optics eyepiece claims compatibility with FZ-1 (presumably on basis of exceptionally long eye relief) :
http://www.william-optics.com/accessory/dcl52.htm
Various teleconvertors have been tried successfully maxing out, as far as I know, with Jimmie Burton's stacked TCON 17 and TCON 14 on his FZ10 to give about a 1000mm equivalent (probably need to copy and paste this link) :
http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/detailfs?userid={2EF17651-2565-41C9-8CA7-302B3086CB4E}&ndx=26&slideshow=0&AlbumId={11EF64F6-36E5-4BE0-B9F1-374122DE2039}&GroupId=&screenheight=600
A bit of vignetting there.

As you are aware this is not a digiscoping forum. We only allow IanF to contribute here because he is a super moderator with super-human powers (he does however go weak-kneed at the mention of the word fluorite; oops, sorry Ian).

As far as I'm aware, you're right that less ambitious lens designs than those in these Panasonics seem to work better for digiscoping. In addition to the swivel body Nikons and 4300, on BirdForum have seen the Sony V1, Olympus 5060 and others recommended. Thought this site was quite a good advert for Pentax Optios :

I am sorry I can't help re. a local digiscoping forum. Maybe Dave Smith who is a BirdForum member, a digiscoper (and based in Maldon) might have some contacts. His web site has his email address :

A very warm welcome to BirdForum :t:

Thought we were out of the FA Cup ways back...

Colchester IMHO is a bit up and coming these days, 10,000 new houses going in over the next few years and quite a cultural life now (apart from the football team, but hey, maybe relocation to Cuckoo Farm will improve matters:)

My OM-1 was pinched in Oz back in '81 and since stuck to more portable family snapshot machines. Have been waiting for digitech to become acceptable and affordable for re-entry into the world of Eric Hosking (where did he find the time ?). The FZ10 looks a likely candidate (rational or not I have always hankered after a Leica, and one with a stabiliser sounds like perfection - or maybe I should wait for the 6 megapixel version ?-) Still a bit big, but how else do you get the light in ?

Thanks for the welcome. Only just discovered this forum and see there's plenty to explore.

Do let me know if anything is happening locally. Look forward to meeting you in due time.

Apparently this eyepiece is available in the UK via Ace Optics (Bristol branch). Anyone know if it can be used with a spotting scope and/or FZ10? It seems to be designed more for the astronomy market.

John

Seems, John, you need to live on other side of Atlantic to have access to a spotting scope which accepts 2" eyepieces; in addition to the Phoenix 80S mentioned on the William Optics page there's the Brandon Master Birder :

(gee was that thread really 8 months ago; seems like 8 years...)
This is the only photo posted by TopQ I could find : http://www.birdforum.net/pp_gallery/showphoto.php/photo/7769/password//sort/1/cat/all/page/1
Nice result; but to get to that setup from scratch would surely be from doing things the hard way.

I've just taken delivery of the beast and can't wait to try it out! I obtained it from www.letsgodigital.co.uk for a very competitive £349. "Raynox" are promising to bring out a x2.2 teleconverter for the FZ10 in May .......
I'm leading a walk at Dungeness tomorrow & hope to get some snaps of the Black Redstart that was so obliging earlier in the weeK!

How strange - no sign of it on their site on Sunday am 4 April - this is the second time I've followed up a reference to a site selling the Fz-10 at a really good price only to find it seems to have subsequently been pulled.....

Now I come to think of it I recall that the website isn't set up to feature Panasonic products - try phoning them on 01752 696966,
