Bah humbug
Was outside around 8pm (still light) this evening and pleased to hear a Tawny Owl typical call across the fields, followed by a quieter 'ker-wick' which is also afaik a common call. However, heard a sound which sounded just like a winnowing Snipe at around the same time.
Snipe don't breed around here (Cornwall), so question is, do Tawny Owls make a similar call at all? Alternative would be whether the owl(s) had put up a Snipe and it was making the song flight anyway. Do Snipe make the call whilst off/en-route to breeding territory?
??
Cheers.
