Grafham Water 1 Jan 2017

The 3 Great Northern Divers close in off the dam early morning. Distant views of the Common Scoter way out from Savages Creek. The 6 Bewick's off Plummer car park.

Grafham Water 2 Jan Red-necked Grebe off Mander car park late morning. The 3 Great Northern Divers still off the dam and the 6 Bewick's Swans at the west end.

Grafham Water 14 Jan: 2 Great Northern Divers off the dam mid morning. A single 'diver' flying around western end and heading towards the dam early pm (the third GND?). Red-necked Grebe still in the fishing boat harbour mid day. Common Scoter still present off Savages. Adult GLAUCOUS GULL flew in at 15:30 but avoided the roosting large gulls and headed to the Savages Creek area where it remained asleep for a while then lost while texting out the news. Not relocated in the roost at dusk. Worth looking closely at this bird as it seemed to have slightly dark primaries and may have been a bit grey overall. One might expect a Glaucous -winged to show these features..... unfortunately no shots obtained today.

Grafham water 15 Jan : pm only in the rain : a Great Northern close in to the dam in rough conditions
Gull roost virtually impossible but no obvious white winged gulls

Grafham Water 21 Jan: 2 Great Northern Divers still off the dam early morning. An unexpectedly approachable Green Sandpiper feeding along the dam. Common Scoter still at west end relatively close for once off Dudney hide.

Grafham Water 22 Jan: 2 Great Northern Divers off the dam early morning. Red-necked Grebe, Common Scoter, and 6 Bewick's swans still at west end

Grafham Water Sun 29th Jan : Still 3 Great Northern Divers, although not off the dam early morning. Eventually found along the north shore. Common Scoter female still off area between Dudney and Savages Creeks.
The water level is nearly fully up now.
