The impression of a 'blob-ended' or slightly down-kinked bill is probably caused a drop of water or mud hanging on the tip. The structure and plumage are 100% summer adult Sanderling.

Agree. No dunlin here. Even if that were not a blob of water/whatever, the bill length and shape is wrong for dunlin

Great, thanks for the replies! There has been a few sightings of Bairds sandpipers in the area recently - what would be the give away characteristics had it been a Baird's?

Thanks

Orangey upper breast is spot on for Sanderling, and wrong for Baird's. Also Baird's should have longer primary tips, though not a good angle for checking this here.
