Fineshade Wood Rockingham Forest (1 Viewer)

Nikon Kid

Love them Sula Bassana
Got up early today went to Fineshade Wood Rockingham Forest, hoping to get
some good pics of Crossbills and Red Kites. Did not see any Crossbills, but found
some Red Kites took some pics but just not close enough need better lens,
like prime 400mm Canon.

On the way to the hide in the wood I came across this fella, what is it Hover
Moth, Bee, or Fly. Got to the Hide and settled down got a nice shot of a Carrion Crow,
in the sign of a cross a bit eerie really.

A guy came in carry a 150-500 Sigma he had it month and was very pleased with it, I checked
some of his pics on the Camrea and they were sharper than mine.

A lot of Squirrels around so took a few shots, Great Spotted Woodpecker on the
feeder, and then some flying Chaffinches also a Greenfinch. Then sitting up
on top of the tree that the Crossbills use, was this Mistle Thrush Juv, I think ?

Left the hide to hunt down some Red Kites found them in the distance took some
pics but not worth it. Then came across a group of Long tail tits, but they would
not keep still within good camera distance. This was on the Mill Wood Trail about a
6 miles loop, I took some photos of Butterflies, and came across a few dragonflies,
I expected more. Stopped for lunch by that time was pretty hungry and a bit worn
out, its me age you know. The funny thing I did not meet many people on my way just
half dozen in 6 hours.

I thought on my way home I would go the backway home
through Blatherwycke onto Kings Cliff I managed to see 3 Red Kites a bit closeer
this time, took some pics but not good enough, but still I have seen more Red Kites
this visit then 3 other visits last year.

Nice pics, Terry, love the crow:t:

Last time I was at Fineshade I got very lost in the woods and walked for miles as I missed my turning and saw very little :-C

I am using a Canon 450d with EF 70-300 f4-5.6 IS USM lens, hoping to buy
soon a Prime CANON EF 400mm f/5.6L USM. I think the small grass paths
around Finesade Woods its hard to see anything also very dark, better to
keep to the larger roads and gravel tracks, where you have a chance to see
birds in flight to get a eyeball on them. I liked the hide they have now brought
the feeders much closer to the windows, but they still need to do more work
on windows, only two would open and one was falling off its catches.
