Just a quick question, if you had to choose between the lodges of Las Tangaras Reserve, Tandayapa and Bellavista, which would be the better choice? I'd be volunteering so I wouldn't be paying the normal rates but just to compare the birds of the area, the lodges themselves, the staff etc.

Many thanks,
Sittelle.

Quick answer, I don't know that I could choose between the three! I've worked closely with, and stayed at, both Bellavista and Tandayapa (I've also visited Las Tangaras for their Cock-of-the-rock lek but have never stayed there). All three are fantastic birding destinations!
The great thing about birding the western slope in Ecuador is that so many species are only seen within certain elevational ranges so you have to move a bit to really maximize your species count. Because of this most lodges work fairly close with one another.
While I love them all, the treehouse set-up at Bellavista was absolutely fantastic!

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Benji

How is your planning going? Did you make your decisions? I'm about to start a new thread regarding a trip in July.
