If you were going on a UK birding holiday, what would you want to know? (1 Viewer)

HI everyone

As an accommodation owner, I'm trying to piece together information specific to twitchers (and other niches). I'd be interested in hearing what a birdwatcher wants to know (with reference to birding) before holidaying in a particular area.

I have some preliminary information assembled at http://www.kendalcottages.com/specialinterests/birdwatching.htm but think I could be adding to this.

The kinds of things I can think of are...

- can you see birds from the accommodation and, if so, what species?
- what sites are of specific interest in the local area?
- are there any birdwatching tours, clubs or outings?
- is any specialist equipment provided (eg. binoculars)?
- at what times of year do key events tend occur (eg. ospreys flying, certain species arriving, etc.)
- ?

What other information would be helpful, do you think?

Thanks!

1) location of, directions to and detasils of the nearest bird reserves/good birding areas.
2) bird lists for above & local area (inc. arrival/departure times of species if targetting birders from outside UK
3) Details of websites relevant to birding in the area (esp. if guests have access to a computer in the accomodation)
4) a supply of relevant leaflets

Other mammals eg otters, badgers, deer and / or other known specialities.

Closeness of pubs and restaurants

Useful walks from the site

Don't target twitchers but say great for birds and...... (whatever - see first point)

A few good photos outside from the property(s) looking at the surrounding countryside and also back on the property. (Some in your photo gallery are unnecessary)

I see other attractions are mentioned. Be aware that even if you only focus on birding only one, maybe two, in any family is fully focused on natural history, the rest may just have a casual interest especially kids who may want something more exciting).
