Confirm Red Phalarope - Fort Erie, ON, Canada (1 Viewer)

Based on the November date, grey back, and thicker bill...i believe this is a Red Phalarope - but would appreicate confirmation of this lifer. Also a question, is the yellow on the bill diagnostic? Don't recall seeing yellow on the bill of a red-necked phalarope before.

Look good for a non-breeding, adult Red Phalarope to me!

* I need that for a "lifer"! Probably not going to happen down here in Missouri though!

* Sibley's guide shows the bird with a little yellow on the bill on the juvenile bird & non-breeding adults.

Thank you all for the prompt confirmation!

Any thoughts on whether the yellow on the bill is diagnostic for Red/Grey Phalarope? Is it possible for red-necked Phalarope to show yellow on the bill?

I believe that the Red-necked Phalarope does not show any yellow on the bill in any of its plumages.

That is correct. Of the three phalaropes, only Red Phalarope would ever show yellow on the bill.
