After hearing about an adult Rose Coloured Starling at Hengistbury Head this morning, I dashed over there from Christchurch only to find out it had just flown off. It was last seen flying over the houses near the golf course and was lost to view. I decided to return in the evening to try to see it coming into roost with the local Starling flocks. There were a few other people searching the area and it was really a matter of playing the waiting game and being patient. I wandered off and looked at the birds gathering on the nearby roofs. Suddenly there it was, but it then vanished from view. When the other birders arrived it showed on the other side of the same roof, where it remained for about 10 minutes. After which it flew to another two roofs before flying off to roost. Well worth a return visit. Could be a few more Rosys found in the next few days.
