Bald Cardinal (1 Viewer)

Hello to all. My name is Bob and I live in Northern Wisconsin. I have had a male Cardinal coming to my feeder and birdbath for a couple of weeks now that has no feathers on his head. I have read that this is from some sort of parasite. The rest of his feathers look pretty bad too. he keeps ruffling them and he keeps rubbing his beak on the edge of our deck. It's pretty cold, damp and windy today and he just looks so miserable. Is there anything I can do for him?

Hi noahzark and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff at BirdForum :t:

Your Cardinal is probably suffering from a mite infection. You probably will not like what I am about to say but it would be a good idea to take any feeders down so it is not passed on to other birds visiting the feeders. You can also call you local wildlife center in your area and ask them for more suggestions. There is nothing, you yourself can do for the poor bird.

Hi Hi noahzark and a warm welcome from me too.
I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about. Unfortunately I can't improve on the response by KC
